The Job

Be part of the surgical team that does surgical preparation of porcine and human brains for perfusion. Participate in perfusion experiments, husbandry and IACUC activities. Manage clinical records, drug ordering and drug inventory.

  • Manage preoperative animal care (administration of preoperative drugs, euthanasia), oversee regular animal care/husbandry.
  • Participate in IACUC activities, oversee clinical record logs and drug inventory, point of contact for USDA inspections.
  • After initial introduction and onboarding perform surgery without supervision and manage perfusions.
  • Independently perform stereotaxic injections, obtain tissue samples during perfusions.
  • Post perfusion tissue sampling of both porcine and human brains.
  • Participate in planning of experiments, input of surgical and perfusion data.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • DVM (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine), or;
  • For Veterinary Technicians - Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) or Academy of Veterinary Surgical Technicians (AVST) accreditation.
  • AALAS accreditation (LATG) - optional

Preferred Skills, Qualifications, or Technical Proficiencies:

  • Experience in surgery
  • Experience with larger animals
  • Experience with procedures performed in a sterile environment
  • Familiarity with IACUC
  • Familiarity with USDA regulations
  • Organizational and coordinating skills
  • Working experience in a laboratory setting
