About Us:

Make an impact with Bexorg! With aspirations to move medicine forward, Bexorg is determined to develop novel technologies and solutions that could improve and extend human life. We are seeking enthusiastic and driven individuals who are willing to take initiative and think ahead to be prepared for any future needs and obstacles.

The Job:

We are seeking a mission-driven Research Scientist to lead and optimize the acquisition, dissection, and pathological assessment of postmortem human brain tissue. This role is critical to advancing our research in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and ALS. The successful candidate will bring hands-on expertise in human neuroanatomy and tissue processing, paired with strong operational discipline and a collaborative mindset.

Essential Duties/Tasks:

Tissue Dissection & Specimen Management

  • Lead precise dissection of postmortem human brain tissue in coordination with neurosurgeons.
  • Ensure rigorous documentation, labeling, and inventory control for all biospecimens.
  • Follow and enhance SOPs to maintain sample integrity from acquisition through analysis.

Neuropathological Evaluation

  • Support targeted tissue sampling aligned with project-specific neuropathological goals.
  • Prepare tissue and biofluid samples for downstream histological, immunohistochemical, and molecular workflows.
  • Partner with clinical and research teams to identify and process regions of interest across major neurodegenerative disease phenotypes.

Data, Compliance & Quality Management

  • Maintain detailed dissection notes, donor metadata, and clinical history in structured digital systems.
  • Ensure full compliance with ethical guidelines and institutional protocols for human tissue research.
  • Continuously improve protocols for tissue preservation, staining, and analysis.

Training & Cross-Functional Support

  • Mentor junior lab members and provide hands-on training in dissection techniques.
  • Collaborate across pathology, molecular biology, and informatics teams to drive integrated project execution.
  • Contribute to team meetings with clear updates on sample availability, processing timelines, and emerging challenges.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Advanced degree (PhD, MD, or Master’s) in Neuropathology, Neurology, Anatomy, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years of direct experience in human brain tissue dissection, preferably in a clinical or research pathology environment.
  • Deep working knowledge of cortical and subcortical brain anatomy.
  • Proven track record of handling postmortem human brain tissue under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Flexibility to support evening/weekend work for acute tissue processing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex biological concepts to non-specialists.

Preferred Skills, Qualifications, or Technical Proficiencies:

  • Experience partnering with brain banks or academic neuropathology programs.
  • Familiarity with neurodegenerative disease staging (e.g., Braak, CERAD) and hallmark lesion identification.
  • Proficiency in frozen sectioning, microdissection, or digital pathology workflows.
  • Exposure to image analysis tools for neuropathological quantification.
  • Demonstrated intellectual curiosity and a track record of solving novel, cross-disciplinary problems.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, evolving research environments with minimal supervision.
  • Experience contributing to a high-impact, mission-driven research culture; startup or fast-growth lab experience a plus.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building systems or processes from scratch when needed.

Please Read:

  • Applicants should be comfortable working in a lab environment with varying schedules to support operational needs.
  • Please be advised that Bexorg operates a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory. All laboratory personnel must adhere to strict safety protocols involving the handling, storage, and disposal of potentially hazardous biological agents. Regular participation in safety training and compliance with institutional safety policies are mandatory to ensure a safe work environment and to mitigate risks.
